You can Conquer Stress

There are countless articles and books about dealing with stress. You can attend seminars that explore ways to handle stress in your life. The bottom line is that stress is always out there, sometimes it is present with more intensity and it is harder to handle. We all experience stress from time to time and some individuals always feel stressed. Stress can be a positive factor that energizes and motivates you to take on a new challenge and get it done. On the other hand, stress can be a negative factor that causes strife in your professional and personal life.

Your health status is your main defense to handle stress in a proactive manner.If you are going to conquer stress you need to have your physical self in top notch shape. It is important to recognize the importance to take care of your physical being by eating well, getting enough sleep and learn to utilize relaxing techniques when in the midst of a stressful situation.

Take a look at your professional and personal life. Look for situations or individuals that add stress to your daily routine. Examine what is the stress that the situation or individuals stir up inside of you. This is where you need to come up with a personal plan to reduce the intensity of how you react or what you can do to stay away from the situation or the individual. You can choose to walk away from stressful situations.

Exercise is a key tool in dealing with stress. A simple thing like taking a 10 minute walk can help you to work off the stress. Schedule and mandate yourself every day that you will take a designated amount of time to exercise to keep your stress levels balanced. Do not allow yourself to say you do not have the time, remember it is important to take care of your physical self.

Another important factor is the daily habits of excessive caffeine and nicotine use. Those extra cups of coffee can help you in the short term, but they will reduce your effectiveness in the long term. Again focus on your physical well being and maintaining a level of stability and not the up and down phenomenon.

If you are put in a stressful situation, there is a tendency to react quickly to the situation or individual. Recognize that this is a challenge and monitor yourself before you say something you will regret later. If you are angry, take a deep breath and think before you speak. Learn to choose your words carefully. Never burn that bridge because you might need to go there later. Never offend individuals or start blaming others, this will only add to the stress and get you going nowhere.

Make yourself a personal checklist to monitor yourself. If you feel your heart racing, your breathing getting shallow, you are jittery or you are clenching your jaw, these are signals that your are losing yourself to stress. This you can take control of by simply monitoring yourself to calm down and keep your reaction controlled.

If you are in a situation where you cannot remove yourself, talk to yourself to calm down. No one else can do this for you. Do not let yourself get angry or take things personally. Take a deep breath and tell yourself to calm down. After this incident is over, put a plan in place to make sure you are never in this situation again.

Keep your attitude in a positive mode and it will help you to manage these stressful situations. Look for the positive side of things and assume that people have good intentions. Negativity breeds trouble and makes stressful situations worse. You can conquer stress but it must be a personal commitment to accomplish this, otherwise you will never get stress under control.
