Living with family, boyfriend or friends can ruin your chances of reaching your weight loss goals because of all the temptations that present themselves.

When you’re trying to lose weight it’s important to have a healthy diet that is rich in nutritious foods but low in calories, fat, sugar and salt. When you live on your own you can stock up on fresh fruit and vegetables, lean meats and fish, whole grains and nuts without anyone complaining that there’s nothing to snack on. If you live with someone else it’s likely that they are going to fill the fridge with items that are not suitable for weight loss. The fact that you control what you buy and put in your fridge or pantry makes weight loss much easier.

2 – Another reason why it’s easier to lose weight when you live on your own is that there is no one trying to tempt you or persuade you to eat something. Our families and friends want what is best for us and usually that means feeding us to the brim. Food should be enjoyed in moderation and when you’re on a diet but no one else is, it’s harder to say ‘no’ firmly in fear of hurting someone’s feelings. Living on your own you can stop when you’ve had enough and there’s no one telling you to eat more, or eat this instead of that. The choice is yours.

3 – Cooking is also an important element related to weight loss. Cooking our own food means knowing what goes in. Living with family or friends may mean that we have to eat the food they cook even though it may not be suitable to our weight loss goals. It’s easier to lose weight when you live on your own because you can cook for yourself. You can steam and grill instead of fry. Use low fat cream instead of full fat. Fill up on salad instead of potatoes. These little things make all the difference when it comes to your weight loss results.
