There are a lot of factors that can contribute to weight gain. Unless you have a medical condition that causes you to put on serious weight, than it is all due to dietary issues and eating all of the wrong foods in your diet.
People many times like I have done myself, yo-yo diet. They lose weight and take it off, over and over in a vicious cycle that never seems to end. These are people like myself, who love to eat too much, and have large appetites. What happens is, you gradually let go of your new eating habits, and go back to your old ones again. “Old habits never die.” This thought is all too true! What you have to work on to avoid more of the yo-yo diet problem is to find ways to enjoy eating a lot and still keep weight off. There are ways to do that, but this is not the article I intend to discuss that subject in.
Moving forward, there are medical issues that can cause easy weight gain. One of them is hypothyroidism where the thyroid is sluggish and doesn’t work fast enough with your metabolism. Common symptoms are weight gain, swelling in the face and eyes, feeling weak, and having a number of headaches. Many people have also noted an intolerance to cold temperatures.
Cushing’s Syndrome where there is too much cortisol hormone in the blood can easily promote a large weight gain. These people have hypertension, along with a very round-shaped face, irregular glucose levels, and women have menstrual irregularities. There is also a lot of muscle deterioration in this disease.
Some medications will cause an easy weight gain. These can be steroidal drugs like Prednisone or injected insulin. Some of the oral anti-diabetic pills will cause a weight increase as well. If you are gaining weight and taking any of these medications, talk to your physician about some possible reductions or changes.
People that have certain sensitivities to foods can gain weight since they either are retaining water due to certain foods. The problem may be due to food allergies. In this case, you will need to get the problem diagnosed and appropriately treated by a doctor.
If you are trying to lose weight, but do not exercise, this will not lead to weight loss, and in fact, can cause you to even put on weight since some of the food turns into fats. When you are on a weight loss plan, do walk every day for at least one half hour. Also, if you have over-eaten, you need to go and walk off some of those calories. When you do nothing but sit around and never move, weight gain will happen quickly and easily. So get out there and move, to keep the scales headed in the right direction!
