There are a number of home remedies to treat sore throats. Some remedies consist of hot or cold compresses and others involve making a poultice. Other helpful remedies use different herbs as the main ingredient as well as simple old fashioned concoctions our grand parents perhaps used in years past. Also featured are helpful nutritional supplements known for treating sore throats and even preventing them.
To make a sore throat cold compress, squeeze the juice from two medium size lemons. Dilute the lemon juice with equal parts of cold water. You will need a piece of linen or cotton fabric to make the compress. You want the cloth to be large enough to wrap around your neck. Dip the fabric in the lemon and water mixture. Squeeze any excess liquid out of the piece of fabric. Apply a thin layer of olive oil on the neck area. Wrap the cloth around your neck starting at the front of your throat. You can secure the fabric with a wool scarf, hair clip, or towel. Leave the cloth on your neck for one hour. Keep the outside area of your throat warm after removing the cloth.

Keep the outside area of your throat warm after removing the wrap.
To make a cottage cheese poultice, you will need a large size piece of cotton fabric. You will also need an 8 ounce container of cottage cheese. Spread a thick and even layer of cottage cheese on the center of the cloth. With a hair blow dryer, warm the cottage cheese. Starting at the front of the throat, wrap the cloth around your neck. Use a wool scarf, hair clip, or towel to hold the cloth in place. Leave the wrap on for 3 to 4 hours until the cottage cheese has dried. Be sure to keep the outside of the throat warm after removing the cloth.
Sucking on a piece of cut lemon helps to relieve a sore throat. Also using a gargle of lemon juice mixed with equal parts of warm water can be very helpful. To make a hot & spicy sore throat gargle: Mix five shakes of cayenne pepper in one cup of warm to hot water. Gargle with this every 10 to 15 minutes. Tabasco sauce can be used in place of cayenne pepper if you desire. You should have noticeable improvement in 1 to 2 hours. Ginger Tea is wonderful with relieving pain from a sore throat. Simply simmer 10 grams of grated ginger root in one cup of warm water for 10 to 15 minutes. Strain and drink the tea every 20 minutes.
Hot apple cider vinegar is great with bringing relief to a sore throat. Hot pickle juice is also a great sore throat pain reliever. Add 1 to 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar to one cup of warm to hot water. Gargle with the apple cider vinegar liquid every 10 to 15 minutes.
Heat pickle juice and add equal parts of warm to hot water. Gargle with the pickle juice liquid every 10 to 15 minutes. Try to gargle with the hottest pickle juice you can handle. The hotter the juice is, the better results you will have. Boil lemonade as hot as you can handle to
drink it. Drink about a half of a cup every 15 minutes. You will notice the pain in your throat will ease after a cup or two. Swallowing a spoonful of raw honey will help with inflammation in the throat. Mix a half cup of apple cider vinegar and two tablespoons of honey in a eight ounce glass of warm to hot water. Many have claimed to get some pain relief from sore throats with the mixture. Heat grapefruit juice and add a little honey. This is also a good remedy for helping to relieve sore throat pain. Another wonderful remedy is to drink very hot tea mixed with two cough drops. Stir the tea until the cough drops dissolve. This is very soothing to a sore throat and also helps a stuffy nose. Gargle with salt and lemon juice. Add a tablespoon of salt to a glass of lemon juice. Gargle every 10 minutes. Eating crushed pineapple also helps ease sore throat pain. There is something involving the acidity of the pineapple that makes this remedy work.
If you find you are losing your voice, a good remedy is to add a teaspoon of lemon juice, a teaspoon of honey, teaspoon of cayenne pepper, and a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar to a cup of water. You can take this either with room temperature water or you may heat it. Gargle with this mixture every 10 minutes until you notice improvement. It is recommended you swallow the mixture after gargling, however you may decide what you prefer to do. Sucking on ice chips will help with throat inflammation. Swallowing a tablespoon of regular mustard is known to get rid of a sore throat. Swallow a tablespoon every 2 hours until you notice improvement. If you have a scratchy throat, swallowing a teaspoon of chocolate syrup is known to help with this as well as help with pain.
