Side Effects of Visken

Visken is a beta-blocking drug type. Visken can be used to treat hypertension, heart rhythm problems, angina, and possibly migraine headaches. Visken may also be prescribed in order to help in preventing a second heart attack.

Not everyone can take Visken. There are certain medical conditions where it is questionable to take this drug at all, or else it could be taken in lower doses as determined by your doctor. If you have certain heart conditions, asthma, diabetes, slow heart rate, liver or kidney disease, and circulation issues, then these conditions will need to be evaluated carefully and some testing done before you can even consider therapy with Visken.

It is very important that you see your doctor regularly when under therapy with Visken. Your doctor will need to evaluate your blood frequently in order to see that the drug is not affecting your blood chemistry levels. You also need to test your blood pressure on a frequent basis when using Visken.

You must take Visken just as your doctor has prescribed it for you. Do not change your dosage of Visken on your own without your doctor’s approval. The dosage you take can be anywhere from 5 to 60 milligrams daily depending upon your condition. Visken is a drug which can also be taken either with or without meals; just always take it at the same times each day. Do not take a double dose of Visken if you have forgotten to take a previous dose. It is also important that you not stop taking Visken on your own without a doctor’s approval. Stopping this drug may cause you to have severe high blood pressure which could lead to a stroke or heart attack.

Though Visken hasn’t shown that it is harmful to an unborn child, you still need to let your doctor know whether you are pregnant or nursing anyway. This drug has demonstrated that it can get into the breast milk.

Visken may have some possible serious side effects. Having trouble breathing is one possible serious side effect. Others are edema, feeling faint or light-headed, changes in heartbeats, possible depression, lack of sex drive, numbness in the hands or feet, and fatigue. Many beta blocking drugs may also cause feelings of anxiety and nervousness, and Visken is no exception. If you have any of these side effects as a result of taking Visken, you need to tell your doctor as soon as possible.
