Side Effects of Relafen

Relafen is a drug that is prescribed for arthritis. It is into the category of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medicines. This drug keeps the hormone prostaglandin from producing in the body which is a hormone that plays a role in inflammation. After taking Relafen, relief should be felt within an hour after taking the drug. The full effect of this drug however, may take 1 month to be reached.

It is very important that your doctor know everything about your past medical history and all medicines you are taking including the ones over the counter. If you have had any history of circulatory problems or heart problems, it is definitely not safe to use Relafen. People that stay on this drug for the long term may start to have these issues and are at a higher risk the longer they take them. If you are taking Relafen, and you start having symptoms such as disturbances in your vision, problems with coordination, trouble breathing, and feelings of weakness, you need to call your doctor at once or report to the emergency room.

If you have ANY problems with your digestive system such as ulcers, Crohn’s Disease or ulcerative colitis, irritable bowel syndrome and conditions like these, taking Relafen is not safe at all. This drug can actually create digestive problems if you don’t already have them. Relafen and other drugs like it have shown that they can cause perforation in the stomach or intestines which is an emergency situation. If while taking Relafen, you start having black stools, vomiting up blood, or bloody cough, get to the emergency room at once. These are also emergency side effects which can occur the longer you take Relafen.

Consult your pharmacist before you use any of the over-the-counter drugs when you are taking Relafen. Too many over-the-counter drugs can have some very serious interactions with many types of prescription drugs.

Relafen may injure an unborn child. If you are plaaning a pregnancy or are pregnant, you need to let your doctor know right away as well as if you are nursing.

You need to take Relafen just exactly as presribed on the label. Take this drug with a full 8 ounce glass of water each time. The usual dosage on this medication is from 1000 to 2000 milligrams daily divided into two doses.

Relafen may cause an allergic reaction in some people who are taking it though this is quite rare. If you take this medicine and have hives, tongue swelling and trouble breathing, seek emergency care at once.

Other possible side effects from Relafen are chest pains, trouble breathing, edema, gaining weight, easy bruising, muscle weakness, cessation of urination, jaundice, pale stools, and low grade fevers. Other effects still are flatulence, itchy skin, and tinnitis. If any of these effects are troublesome to you, then you need to report them to your doctor at once.
