Is it possible to Lose Weight without a Support Network

Is it possible for people to lose weight in the absence of any kind of support network? Probably. It is possible for people to do just about anything that they truly set their mind to. But at the end of the day, losing weight is a tough battle. It takes hard work and discipline and it is a heck of a lot easier when you enlist the help of a support network. It is absolutely possible to lose weight without a support system – but why would you want to?

There are, of course, scenarios where the immediate circle of people in a person’s life are not supportive of the decision to lose weight either because of jealousy or because it is seen as a threat to that person’s unhealthy lifestyle. If the majority of people around the weight loss candidate have unhealthy diet habits and a sedentary lifestyle, sometimes the desire to lose weight in someone close to them can be a little bit threatening. And when people are threatened, they may lash out. They may even attempt to sabotage the person’s efforts to lose weight. Why? Because it makes it ok for them to continue living the unhealthy lifestyle that they have been living. Someone close to them losing weight and making an effort to change their lifestyle is very scary because it threatens everything that is safe to them.

People like this can be toxic to any effort to lose weight and sometimes it is better to simply avoid these people until you are strong enough to withstand the temptation or the toxicity that comes from being around them. But that doesn’t mean that you have to accept the fact that you have no support network. You can build a new support system to help you get through the first uncertain weeks and months of your weight loss program. You may find that you are a lot stronger than you ever gave yourself credit for.

Getting involved with classes at your local gym is a great way to meet other people who are on the same path as you are in terms of health and fitness goals. You can also attend things like Weight Watchers meetings or nutrition classes to surround yourself with people who are looking to make healthy changes in their diet. You can find support in these meetings and classes as well as an outlet for some of the issues you are going through in your weight loss journey.
