How to Treat Fatigue Due to Menopause

Menopause is certainly not any fun complete with mood swings and hot flashes. However, one of the harder things to deal with is the fatigue. When you feel tired all the time life gets difficult and you may find yourself struggling to accomplish the daily activities that you would normally get done without a problem. You aren’t alone and there are a few things that you can do to help with the fatigue.


Exercise is a good thing to do for everyone and women dealing with menopause are no different. Exercise does the body good and will help you sleep better at night. However, exercise can be hard when you are tired all the time. Try exercising early in the day so that you are at your best. This is likely to give you a bit of an energy boost after awhile and it will make it easier to sleep at night.

Eat healthy.

Eating healthy is another thing that everyone should do. Eating healthy should include lots of fruits and vegetables, limit stomach upsetting foods, eat smaller meals, and avoid eating close to bedtime. These things will limit any heartburn that may keep you up at night even without you knowing about it.

Cut back.

There are several stimulants that are common in many different lives, but these things are likely to make it harder for you to sleep. Since sleep is one of the most important aspects of fighting the fatigue that menopause often causes you should consider cutting back on caffeine, cigarettes, and even alcohol. If you are going to drink caffeine consider sticking to morning coffee and avoiding sodas and coffee based drinks after noon. It should be noted that alcohol often causes interrupted sleep even though many people believe that it is a good way to relax before bed. Skipping that relaxing glass of wine may make a difference in how you feel the next morning.


There are a number of different meditation methods that may help you to relax and enjoy a better nights rest. Consider deep breathing, candle watching, or even yoga before bed to help clear the mind and get your body ready for a good nights sleep.

Talk to your doctor.

If you are still feeling fatigued all the time it is time to talk to your doctor. Talk to him or her about trying an herbal remedy for menopause such as black cohosh. Many healthy individuals who are not taking any medications have found that black cohosh limits the number of menopause related symptoms. This could make a difference in your sleep and in how rested you feel after a nights sleep.

Other treatments are also available and if herbal methods aren’t going to work for you then you may want to discuss your options with your doctor. Be up front about how you are feeling, the symptoms you have, and how that is effecting your life. Then your doctor can discuss the right option for you to make your life easier.

By getting a better nights sleep you are likely to feel much more relaxed. Even though menopause makes it a lot harder to get that night of sleep there are things you can do. Should you need to, talking with your doctor can be a very effective way to handle your menopause and the fatigue is causing.
