Losing weight obviously requires you to have more than just self-belief, since you also need to be motivated and prepared to change the way you eat and the way you live your life in general. If you’re the kind of person who eats junk food all the time, goes out drinking quite often, frequently skips meals and doesn’t do any exercise you’re unlikely to lose weight without addressing your lifestyle. However, self-belief does have a role to play in aiding your weight loss, as if you don’t believe in yourself you face an uphill battle to lose weight.
Clearly, if you lack self-belief you don’t have any confidence in your ability to change anything and this attitude may lead you to sabotage your own efforts. If you believe you will fail you will end up taking action that will make this into a reality and when this happens all you end up thinking is that you were right. It becomes much easier to give up on your weight-loss plans when you believe that whatever you do will make no difference at all.
Of course, if you stick to a calorie-controlled diet and make an effort to exercise regularly you should be able to notice a difference when you step on the scales, but creating your own weight-loss plan and sticking to it can be a real challenge. If you have a certain amount of self-belief you realise that you will get there in the end. It might take you awhile to create the perfect diet plan for you where you are able eat the foods you want and still lose weight, but you know that you have to follow through with your aims.
Losing weight can be tough and so the easiest option is usually to give up, but this will only make you more miserable about your size. When you’re following a healthy eating plan and getting some exercise you can at least feel positive that you’re taking the right steps to address your weight problem. If you go on a crash diet and lose a few pounds you won’t feel any better for it, as you will be so hungry that eventually you end up bingeing on food which usually signals the end of your diet. The chances are you will regain all the weight you lost and you will be left with a sense of hopelessness.
Thus, if you want to succeed on your weight-loss journey it is extremely useful to believe in yourself and to acknowledge that it is within your power to alter the situation so that eventually you will be the slimmer and healthier person you hope to be.
