Health and Development Checks in the first Year of a Childs Life

The first year of a newborn’s life has the most important moments of development that a parent needs to pay attention to. Not all children have the exact same health concerns in any family, but they all do need a visit to a doctor or health care professional. Without proper treatment or meeting with a doctor, on the approximate dates stated on a newborn’s health card that is given sometime after birth, an infant may be subject to various medical risks such as diseases, illnesses, mental illnesses or physical handicaps that he may have not started his life with. There are programs, such as the Children’s Health Insurance Program, for those who feel they can not do a medical checkup due to financial reasons. A baby’s life is dependent on the decisions of parent as he is not normally able to speak or walk before the age of one.

Before visiting a doctor´s clinic, a parent should learn about the place first by going to its website on the internet, looking at pamphlets or discussing it with those who have gone there before. That way the visit is more comfortable and there is more of an understanding between the doctor and the parent. Once there, the doctor will do an examination of the child and ask a series of questions. It is highly recommended that parents ask questions as well so as to address any issues that their child may be having that the doctor may not be aware of. Once all needed subjects have been discussed and the infant has been thoroughly checked, the doctor may start treatment or vaccinations, if needed, on the current visit or at later time.

Handling the maintenance of a child’s health requires proper scheduling and sometimes frequent visits. Visiting a children’s hospital one time only is not going to solve all problems. The scheduled periods of visits for the first year are: 3-5 days, 1 month, 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 9 months, and 12 months. If on time for the given schedules, the infant will be healthier due to proper immunizations and diagnoses given from tests and screenings. The immunizations will boost his immune system and screenings will reveal his ability to hear and if he has any heart problems.

If there are any issues financially, parents can use the Children’s Health Insurance Program. The Children’s Health Insurance Program covers prescription drugs, vision care, hearing assistance, mental health, dental care and immunizations. Coverage is most important when it comes to immunization, as the child will continue to receive immunization shots throughout his life. Without vaccines given, he could suffer from measles, mumps, rubella, chickenpox, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, polio, diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis and influenza. Suffering these illnesses is not a pleasant experience for children.

After frequent visits with the doctor, monitoring the child’s health and getting the proper health coverage, he will have a very high chance of making it to his second year of life and continuing with development and exploration of his new world. As well as creating happiness for him, the parent will enjoy the company of her child for yet another year as well. Children are important for the progress of society as they are the replacements of the older generation. Without children being taken care of health-wise, the world may end up no longer having the human race. Little ones should be loved and treated with extra care.
