Fundamental tips for women’s healthier living

Now that the weather has finally broken and we are approaching the middle of May, many women are focusing more on healthy outside activities. Here are some fundamental and essential tips for longevity and happiness.

Eating healthy is essential to clear thinking and being able to focus, as well as overall general happiness. As the saying goes, “an apple a day keeps the doctor away.” Not only eat plenty of fruits but also plenty of vegetables and whole grains. The key here is to stay heart healthy and enrich the diet with plenty of anti-oxidants, as well as natural vitamins and minerals, and have a smooth running digestive system. Do limit food and drinks that are high in calories, sugar and definitely saturated fats and sodium. Eat a well balanced diet.

As long as there aren’t any physical issues preventing physical exercise, it is highly recommended that 2 hours (30 minutes a day minimum) of exercise a week be done to keep a regular heart, good muscle tone, and good joint movement. Try to include some activities or exercises that raise breathing and heart rates and strengthen bones.

Protect yourself from the elements when exercising in the sun and heat. Wear light colored and loose fitting clothes, and use a sunscreen for exposed skin and lips. If bicycling, skating or rollerblading, always wear a helmet and knee and elbow pads for protection. Wear UV protection sunglasses also for the eyes. Protect your mental well being and happiness by building safe and healthy relationships with friends and families.

It is always a good thing to be informed. See the doctor regularly and always if something doesn’t feel or seem right physically or with life itself, consult a doctor. Too many times will people wait until it is too late for a health professional to do something about an issue or a problem. Read health news on updates, magazines and books as the face of women’s health changes as time goes on.

Do the best to manage stress by balancing work, home and play. Don’t put too many things on the plate, and always make time just for yourself. Do act as if every day or every weekend is Mothers’ Day and pamper yourself. A good massage, a facial or pedicure is a cost effective as well as luxurious way to pamper yourself. Lastly and very importantly, get plenty of rest. Remember that if it takes longer than 20 to 30 minutes to fall asleep, then you aren’t getting enough rest.
