Dance Dance Revolution and Weight Loss

Be it for competing, for fun, or for losing weight, Dance Dance Revolution has become an increasingly popular video game. Also known as DDR, the game was introduced in Japan and made its way over to Europe and eventually to North America. Because the game is so physical (and very addicting), it promotes weight loss. If you want to lose weight, look no further than this practical, easy-to-learn dancing game.

DDR consists of wicked workout music from electro to pop to rock. There is a mixture of both older and newer songs, especially in the newer versions. The game comes with a dance pad (or you can buy a solid dance platform or stage separately) with arrows pointing up, down, left, and right. After you select your song and the music starts, arrows to up the screen to the song beat. As the arrows come up the screen, the aim of the game is to stomp your feet on the dance pad to match the arrows on the screen.

The way to lose weight when playing the game is to get good at it first. Work up your skill level. If you’re a beginner, the key is to master the beginner level and then move up to the intermediate level. You want to get each stomp in there to get the most of the workout, and to make your overall score at the end of the song higher. The more you play and the more you practice, the easier it will be for you to play at the expert level, the ultimate of calorie burning levels!

It’s no fun dancing to a slow and boring song. Pick songs that you know and are comfortable with. There is a wide range of songs to choose from. To lose weight, however, pick as many fast beats-per-minute songs as you can. Your heart rate will rise when you play the song, and will drop when it’s time to pick the next song, keeping your body in interval mode during your game session.

Choose the proper game settings to better your weight loss efforts. In the newer versions of the game, there is an option called workout mode. This mode allows you to enter your height and weight, and will count the calories you burn during a game session. You can enter your workout goals, such as how long you want to workout for, as well as your long-term weight loss goals, for example how many pounds you want to lose. It also tracks your progress, and enables you to watch as you advance with your weight loss goals.

Playing DDR against someone is great fun. You each can select your skill levels, and play simultaneously on the same screen. Whether the aim of the person you play with is to lose weight or not, playing with him or her is a way to for you to get competitive and motivated. If you don’t have anyone to play with in the same room as you, you can play online against others – which is just as rewarding.

You will lose weight when you play DDR on a regular basis naturally. It will happen, and it will happen fast, especially if you are on a healthy eating plan. The great thing about using a video game as your weight loss tool is that you’re more focused on beating the game, rather than the physical activity you’re actually doing. With DDR especially, you’re moving non-stop, all the while sweating and breathing hard. The game is addicting, and most times you will lose track of how long you’ve actually played for. Weight loss has never come easier.
