Detoxification is the process of removing toxins, debris and waste from the body. Additives and preservatives in foods accumulate in the digestive tract. Toxins from the environment enter the body through the air and through skin. Detox diets help the body breakdown and flush out toxins that build up over time. Flaxseeds and psyllium are also beneficial as detox aids. They are both very high in fiber and help to move waste and toxins that build up in the digestive tract out of the system. Flax has the ability to bind to toxins and help transport them out of the body.
Green tea provides an abundant supply of antioxidants. It also contains a substance called catechins. Catechins promote liver activity and support its many cleansing functions.

One of the greatest detoxifiers is water. Drinking water throughout the day, constantly flushes wastes and toxins from the body. Water combines with fiber in the digestive tract. The resulting gel like substance moves through the intestines and sweeps sludge and build up out of the system. Distilled or filtered water has been put through a process that removes existing toxins and minerals.

Adding these foods to an already balanced diet, can remove contaminants that go undetected within out diet or lifestyle. Clearing them from the body by adding detoxifying foods to the diet, will not only eliminate toxins and waste, but also improve the overall functions of several organs in the body.
